Standard
of Living
The standard of living available
in Iowa is just like in the rest of the country! Studies show that
you can maintain the same level and do it less expensively in smaller
cities and towns. Great homes are available for thousands less than
big cities.
Education
Iowa schools are renowned for their
attention to quality and preparation of students for higher education.
The composite ACT scores for Iowa schools are consistently and significantly
above the national average: Iowa - 22.1 vs. U.S. - 2 I.0.
Pace of Life
Life has a more reasonable, moderate
tempo in Iowa. There's lots to do but it doesn't have to be done
at the high speed, on-the-go, rush-rush pace of metropolitan areas.
Long commutes through heavy traffic with angry drivers are not the
norm.
Community Values
The
smaller cities and towns of Iowa have a greater sense of working
together to improve their community. There is more opportunity to
partner together with other leaders to keep important values alive.
As you become increasingly more involved with people you can have
a wider influence.
Clean Air and Water
The pollution issues that plague
the large metropolitan areas of our notion are practically nonexistent
in the towns and small cities of Iowa. We don't have many problems
with hazardous waste sites!
Steady Manageable Growth
Iowa
is growing. Believe it! The state's population is projected to increase
to 3,047,000 by the year 2015. And some small cities and towns are
rapidly expanding at a rate substantially above the state average.
For example, according to the newspaper, The Quad-City Times, the
following cities experienced marked increases between 1990 to 1998:
-
Bettendorf: 12.5%
-
Marion: 16.2%
-
Urbandale: 16.9%
-
West Des Moines: 33.0%
-
Ankeny: 35.2%
Low Crime Rates
The number of violent crimes (homicide,
assault, and rape) and property crimes like robbery are much lower
than the national average in our cities and towns.
